Ismail Hashim is the doyen of Malaysian photography and a Penang boy. Dabbling only in black and white, his works are so witty and widely collected. After a stint as a lecturer in the Arts department at our local university, he now immerses himself fulltime fulfilling publication and exhibition datelines. We met over a cup of coffee one day discussing about his recently published retrospective while going through his past and latest works when I felt the inspiration to shoot him! Unknown to many, Ismail is camera shy. “Good, I like it!” I say. “In other words this is a rare work!” He just smiled. Picture taken at Kedai Kopi Chuan Foong, Jln Chan Siew Teong, Tanjung Bungah, Penang.
