The name “Penang” comes from the modern Malay name Pulau Pinang, which means island of the areca nut palm (Areca catechu, family Palmae). There are thousands of species of palm in this world and if one cruises down the streets of Penang, chances are they would stumble upon stunningly beautiful mature species such as these with captivating¬†inflorescence. Pictures taken at Jln Dr Lim Chwee Leong, Penang Road and Straits Quay, Penang.
